When I started working with Marilyn I was in pretty sad shape. I had some serious back problems. I had undergone a cervical
laminectomy and
suffered severe pain daily. On top of that I had some balance issues. I
couldn't walk up or down even a
few steps without holding on to a rail.
There were many occasions when I just wanted to give up but Marilyn was
always
there for me with an encouraging, positive attitude and a
willingness to support me whether I wanted it or not. I believe I
would
not be where I am today had it not been for Marilyn Jerome. I am stronger
and healthier. My balance has
dramatically improved, my bone density tests
are extraordinary (I'm 56). Marilyn has seen me through some pretty bad
setbacks-even a rotator cuff injury. I have had the opportunity to work
with other trainers and Marilyn is far superior to any
one of them. She is
open-minded, serious about her work and a good example of how to take care
of your body. She is
sincere and a good listener.and well-read to boot.
She is an extremely well educated trainer with lots of experience working
with people like me (over 29!). These days I don't give up so easily when
beset by a challenge and I am more confident about
what I can accomplish.

My training experience with you has been very good. I appreciate everything that together we've achieved: I'm thrilled that I
lost 10 lbs and reduced
my body fat from 24% to 18% and that, as a result, my body is leaner and
more toned. My energy
has increased and you know with my job I sometimes
don't get enough rest so I need a lot of energy. I'm also really happy
that my posture has improved (I've been told all my life to stand up
straight) and so has my flexibility. You know I was very
concerned after
that physical therapist told me my hamstrings were as tight as an 80-year
old man. One final thing:

I came to Marilyn Jerome about 4 years ago. Everybody kept telling me that
one should exercise but I had no idea where
to start, so - naturally -
seek the trainer. When Marilyn asked me what am I trying to achieve, I
wasn't even sure what to
answer. "I am supposed to do that", or "I hear it
is good for you"? Well, I do know now. It is about feeling well, doing
well,
and looking well too. Since then I have been exercising
(religiously!), and results are quite visible. More specifically: I am
definitely feeling better physically. My posture has improved
considerably, comparing photos from 5 years ago I can see
substantial
difference. I am also feeling much better emotionally, I have added
muscle. Many people complimented me on
how I look which is always nice!
Marilyn has been a big part of this success. Sure, there are other
trainers, but not all are
dedicated to help you to achieve results. She's
moved from gym to gym several times over these years, and I kept following
her, even though location might be less than perfect for me. I know she

Even in the best of times, we don't often tell our friends or colleagues how important they are to us. So, I'm going to "change
the
paradigm" and take the time, during this first blush of the New Year, to
tell you what a major change you've made in
my life. The bottom line is
this: you've made me a better person. I can now clearly see that 1) making
good on
commitments, to myself and others, is deliciously satisfying; that
2) extending a real effort to accomplish specific life goals is
rewarding
in wonderful ways, even if I don't totally achieve them; and 3) accepting
the need for discipline and focus is of
enormous benefits in every area of
life. So, how does working out with you twice a week for the past two
years do all that?
It's just that-I have worked out faithfully for the
past two years-commitment, satisfaction and focus. And, when I last had my
bone density checked, I discovered it has improved 5%.without drugs.
That's the reason I came to you in the first place.

Dear Marilyn:You have made an
invaluable impact on my life. When I first began my weekly training with
you two
years ago, I was recuperating from a serious bout of Lyme disease.
My one and a half years battling this debilitating disease,
had left me
severely weakened and pessimistic about ever resuming the active life I
had previously lead. I not only can
enjoy the many activities I used to
love - swimming, biking, and hiking - but also have attained a sense of
well being.
I attribute this recovery to your patience, knowledge of
how to work my body appropriately and the support you have
provided which
has given me the focus and promise of living an active fruitful life of
adventure and fun and good health.

I find Marilyn to be an excellent trainer. I particularly like her holistic
approach. She has made a dramatic improvement in
my posture. Since I was
so hunched over from years of bad posture, I though that would never
happen. I also have a
herniated disk that can be quite painful at times
and I had very little flexibility. Marilyn has been helping me strengthen
my back and my legs and we have made progress in my level of flexibility.
When I started with Marilyn I had trouble getting up
and when I sat down
my hip would lock. This rarely happens to me now. Since I am 70 years old,
my balance has been a
problem. We have also made progress on that. I must
add that I have given up smoking with Marilyn's encouragement.
Overall, I
have achieved a marked improvement in my overall condition. -Winn

I'm a 59-year-old female whose profession as a psychotherapist
requires that I spend my working day in a sedentary
fashion. Nine months
ago, when I began my program with Marilyn I was totally out of shape.
Seven months later, I was
on vacation in the Czech Republic with my
husband and a group of our friends. We were on our way to see Prague
Castle, strategically perched atop a hill overlooking the city. As I
looked up at it, my first thought was, "How Magnificent". As
we neared the
bottom of a seemingly endless staircase, I realized with dread that this
was the only approach to the reach
the top. "Oh no" I thought. "I'll never
make it. This is too difficult. Isn't there an easier way to the top? How
much do I
really want to see the place anyway?" My vanity got the better
of me and I realized that I couldn't act like an old lady in front
of
everybody. My thinking suddenly shifted to "I've been doing strength
training three days a week for seven months
and I've lost 20 pounds. I'd
been running up subway steps at home in New York City for a month. What's
the big deal,
anyway?" As those thoughts raced through my head, I started
to run up the long stairway to the castle. I quickly passed
everybody in
our group and got to the top step well before anyone else. I waited at the
top, my pulse barely elevated,
breathing easily. I thought how proud I
felt, not to mention, how much younger, healthier and stronger I felt.-MK
Marilyn: Given that I have muscular dystrophy, I am truly grateful
to you for giving me stamina and keeping me
vertical and mobile. A
wonderful by product of working with you is the fact that I can now bend
my left arm holding a light
weight which is something I had gone through
PT at Rusk and they failed where you succeeded. My Neurologist thinks
you
are wonderful to think up the exercise that is training
another muscle to take over for the dead
one. I had worked on
that arm for 2 years before I met you to no avail, and 2 persistent years
later, I have some use.
I notice odd things, which contribute to an overall positive feeling: It's
easier to get up from lying down. I rode an
escalator with my
brother-in-law (I haven't been steady enough to do that in years.) My arms
don't feel too heavy for my
shoulders anymore. My shoulders don't ache all
the time anymore. And, most important, I am pain free for the first time

I
was never in any better shape than when you
managed my physical training
and then thereafter. Your attention to detail was beyond
admirable not to
mention to your patience. Due to
convenience (and convenience only) I moved to a closer facility and
trained again and was always highly complimented on my form.... that was
you! To this day with or without a trainer, I
follow your
program---remembering your words "if you don't do it right, you'll hurt
yourself" and the last thing we need is

I
have been working out with Marilyn Jerome for almost two years. She has changed my body and my attitude. She
has inspired me to want to
achieve a difference in myself. I've lost about 15 lbs. We haven't
measured; but I've
also lost many inches-probably went down two clothing
sizes. I look better and I certainly feel better.
What I find
most
surprising about the entire experience is that I actually miss working
out and feel very lazy and much more
tired when I stop for even a
week I'm kind of on a hiatus now- and really can't wait
